After 2017’s delve into the velvety, jewel toned abyss, 2018 is the year of the natural re-emergence. Think warm, muted colour palettes, a celebration of natural materials, indoor plants for days, and free-flowing wall sculptures. In essence, the form-meets-function modern Scandi trend is hitting back hard, and we aren’t mad about it.
Join us as we dive into some of our favourite elements of this beautifully pared-back style forecast.
Move over millennial pink - 2018’s colour palette is all about those understated earthy tones. Russet browns, terracotta, and tan lay the groundwork, while deep, dusty blues, peach, chartreuse, and a touch of teal and green here and there add the accents and create a more dynamic mood. Most noteworthy of all, however, is that beige is back, and we. are. loving. it. Embrace the world’s most ordinary colour this year, and use it as the cornerstone for creating amazing spaces.
Why choose just one natural material when you can choose them ALL?! Timber, marble, stone, terrazzo (ok, not technically natural, but it’s definitely got the vibes) - it’s all good! Celebrate the incredible fusion of mixed materials by incorporating a variety of natural textures and finishes into your space. Marble bench tops, timber flooring, brass pendants, stone planters and sheepskin throws are just some of our favourite on-trend styling elements.
We are loving the emergence of these quirky wall features, and the fresh take they bring to the wall art scene. Whether the shapes and materials are organic and free flowing, or geometric and bold, we can’t wait to see more of these gorgeous sculptures and watch the trend evolve.
While the year of PANTONE Greenery might technically be over, we somehow can’t see the trend of indoor plants dying off any time soon (pardon the pun). In fact, we feel like it was just the launching point for what might be mass house plant hysteria. The trend appears to be: the more, the bigger, the greener, the better. And honestly? We LOVE it.
